Enzo Ferrari envisioned a touring vehicle built with his famous racing engine, so he assembled a super-team of coach builders and designers to create this wealthy man's coach.
The Mondial's design and engineering was created by the largest league of extraordinary automobile designers of all time,
Ferrari, Scagliettie, Bertone and Pinninfarina, explaining why over the years this car gained the reputation as a durable masterpiece for it is as reliable as it is stylish.

Enzo Ferrari assembled the master coach builder Carrozeria Scagliettie and car stylist Gruppo Bertone both of whom were sought-after car designers were commissioned to create both concept and production cars for other fine car manufactures as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. In 1988 the famed car designer, Sergio Pinninfarina, was called in to put his spin on making what was then the world's greatest touring car even better. Sergio Pinninfarina himself had designed cars for Maserati, Ferrari and Alpha Romeo, just to name a few.
This team of master designers consisted of Ferrari himself, Scagliettie, Bertone and Pinninfarina. Their sole mission was to create the world's most luxurious super car for the modern wealthy family of four. Ferrari explained to these designers he didn't like loosing his mega rich clients as they needed much larger family cars. He felt they should not give up the love for their sports cars because it was too small. The Mondial was designed to rectify the situation, and became known as the wealthy man's family car providing a futuristic super car with extreme style.
The 1988 Ferrari Mondial 3.0 has the distinction of being the only automobile in history having 2+2 seating and a rear mid-engine.
The Mondial was designed to be a comfortable, entertaining, and fun drive for the modern Ferrari family.
Pinninfarina was not only this car's next designer, but at the time of production of the Mondial Sergio Pinninfarina was also partners with Enzo Ferrari, and was therefore highly insulted from the start when Ferrari began production of the Mondial in 1980 with Bertone as the designer without consulting him.
From its inception the Mondial was widely accepted by the world's super rich. Eight years later Pinninfarina decided to put his designer spin on the car, and redesigned the 1988 Mondial greater than ever by taking Bertone's origami lines and giving it his sexy signature curves, thus creating a new timeless design that was extremely modern and posh.

Under Pinninfarina's watchful eye the Mondial 3.2 was created to become an exceptional sports car. The hidden history behind this particular year, make, and model was Sergio Pinninfarina had a vendetta to settle in not being Ferrari's first choice to design the Ferrari Mondial. Pinninfarina had a reputation for hand-inspecting every vehicle that bore his name and badge, so this fact coupled with his vendetta with Ferrari over this marque all but insures this Ferrari Mondial 3.2 is one of those rare vintage vehicles hand-touched by the legendary designer himself.
With low shoulder lines, sharp nose, flying buttresses, flat engine lid and characteristic exotic side intakes this is one of those timeless beauties that turns heads even more than any other high-end luxury driver.
This particular V-8 engine brought new blood to the Ferarri marque thrusting this car into the supercar league where it belonged.
It was superbly created by blending dynamic ability with masterful body-design, clever electronics and sports-car features which brought this model to new heights.
Pinninfarina's mission in this 1988 Mondial was to not only redesign this vehicle, but also give it more power than ever. He wanted a perfect car built solid to perfection, and soon it became known for its extreme reliability and sensible approach to maintenance.
